Prayer and Dependence on God We depend completely on God to open doors for ministry and to provide for personal and ministry needs. We not only believe in the power of prayer; we live by it. Therefore, our intercessors are crucial member of the Ethne team. Their prayers are essential.
We believe that the Bible is God's authoritative Word and that He guides and teaches us through it. Therefore, in-depth study of the Scriptures is at the heart of all of our conferences and training.
Cooperation between Congregations and Denominations For many centuries the Church has been divided and, thereby, less effective. There are scores of congregations in our towns and cities but very little synergy. We are committed to bringing the Church together around common mission initiatives. As each congregation offers its particular gifts and resources, the Church as a whole will be more effective in local and global mission. Without making light of the Church's theological and ecclesiological differences, we believe that what unites us is more important than what divides us and that God is calling us to discover the practical implications of "the unity of the Spirit."
Inter-Generational Teams Just as the denomination gap has decreased the Church's effectiveness, so has the generation gap. The history of missions is peppered with glorious seasons of sacrificial expansion of the Church. What has been mission is a sustained on-going movement. Therefore, we are committed to working, as much as possible, as multi-generational teams. We believe that the emerging generation has the potential of doing what other generations have dreamed of - taking the Gospel to every people group in the world and finishing the Great Commission.
Life-Long Learning In a world that is changing as fast as ours is, we believe that leaders must keep learning and growing. Though the Gospel never changes, we much continually interpret the truths of Scripture for each new and emerging culture. Therefore, we are committed to a life-long pattern of inquisitiveness and curiosity. We read books and journals, take courses, attend conferences, and ask lots of questions.
Without leaders movements fizzle out. Therefore, we are committed to equipping leaders. We are more concerned with accomplishing a long-term vision than tallying up short-term successes. We want to help people develop their leadership potential so that they can train other leaders. |
